I absolutely love a mojito, as evident by my ever popular Mojito Float, Watermelon Mojito, and Vodka Mojito. They are one of my favorite summer cocktails! Very few cocktails are as light and refreshing and easy to drink on a hot summer day.

However, I am always trying to eat my calories – not drink them! So today I’m sharing my new favorite summer sip – a Skinny Mojito! We’ve captured all the sweet mint and lime flavor you love, without all the calories.

Skip the mix – these mojitos are quick and easy. You know my motto! Fresh is always best! These cocktails are made with just four ingredients, too.

Ingredients

  • Rum – We recommend any clear rum. White rum, silver rum and blanco rum work well for mojitos, and offer the best flavor that pairs well with mint and lime. Rum is about 64 calories an ounce. For more specific detail, read our guide to the Best Rum for Mojitos.
  • Limes – Fresh limes add a lot of flavor without the calories!
  • Mint – Fresh mint adds a bright essence and scent to this cocktail.
  • Calorie Free Lemon Lime Soda – The perfect substitution for simple syrup and soda water.

Variations

  • Use Coconut Rum! It’s so good that when you close your eyes, you just might drift away to an island somewhere. Malibu Coconut Rum is a great choice.
  • Add a Purée – Try watermelon, strawberry, mango or pineapple.
  • Club Soda – Reduces the sweetness and adds a tart flavor.

Test Kitchen Tips

  • Make a Pitcher of Mojitos – You can double, triple, etc using the 1x2x3x option in the recipe card. Add soda to each glass when serving.
  • Rum Recommendations – When it comes to mixed cocktails, it’s not always necessary to use a high end bottle of alcohol. Try Flor de Cana, Bacardi Superior, Captain Morgan, Brugal or Cruzan.
  • How to Rim a Glass – Rub a lime wedge around the edge of a glass, and dip in a shallow plate of white granulated sugar. This does add calories!
  • How to Muddle Mint – Use a muddler, the back of a spoon or ice cream scoop to crush the mint and lime, releasing their juices.
